Marine Park Golf Course

What a great place for a golf course in Brooklyn, NY with views and my first time here. Son lives in Queens so the trip here was a great surprise to find a Robert Trent Jones Sr. in the middle of this. Very flat links layout with everything (fairways/greens) in very good condition considering how dry its been. The wind was the biggest hazard we faced and worked our balls every which way. Played from the Blues/Tips at 6,866 yds / 72.2 / 123 and paid $43 after RSVP fee, non-resident fee so we decided to walk, very good choice. Easy 4.5hr with many people taking advantage of the various discounts offered after 12pm. I shot 41/36 w/ 31 putts with Son Barry @ 36/45 w/31 putts having 6 Birdies between made it a fun memorable afternoon. Great Location, Length, Conditions for an affordable course this close to New York city that the average public person can play.

I had the opportunity to play marine Park this week and while it was early on a Friday, the pace of play was fast. I was especially impressed with the staff. I had the chance to speak to some of them throughout my round, they were all very friendly, very polite. I was especially imressed with one of their staff pro's, Sean, we talked aboutthe course layout and as i recounted my round with him-- he described every shot location on every hole and how I could have played it. He never said should have-- he was very encouraging and very helpful. I will most definatly play here again and bring my buddues as well. They even have a brand new track-man system so I think I'm going to get a couple lessions as well.

All of the improvements to the course, the clubhouse, along with a new range and complete practice facility make this course the best in the 5 boros. Compares well with all of the Westchester Co. courses, too, and actually suropasses them.

I have played this course in years past and was often dissatisfied with many aspects of the course including its maintenance and its staff (I played here because it was a convenient halfway point for me and my buddt to get together). Rather then go into all that WAS wrong with the course, let me know say that there is new management there and they have done an outstanding job in making this course better and more enjoyable to play. The greens were magnificent (and fast!). The fairways were maintained well. And the staff went out of their way to make this an enjoyable experience. For example, the pace of play was very slow (there was a group of 7 foursomes ahead of us playing in a league, many of whom couldn't hit more than 100 yards but were playing from the tips!!!) but after a call to the clubhouse I saw all the rangers out on the course making sure that players kept moving along and things finally picked up. Kudos to the staff and management! This is a gem hidden in Brooklyn.

I played Marine Park in 2007. At that time the greens were very good but the fairways were poor. They did not have enough topsoil and they were rocky.

I have played Marine Park 3 times this year (2008)and it seemed like a different course, the fairways were top class along with the greens. great improvement in all aspects, a good challenge. The course is well worth giving it a go.
